How to analyse a cartoon or photo

  1. What does the cartoon or picture show, when/where/by whom: In this cartoon/picture one can see… – It shows …
  2. Describe the picture or cartoon in one paragraph: In the cartoon we can see… – In the cartoon we can  identify…
  3. What is criticised in the cartoon, what is the message, what is the intended effect of the picture on the viewer? The cartoon is a comment on … – It points out … The cartoonist comments on …. – The characters represent people who… – The characters stand for a society which… – The caption…. –  The cartoonist shows the problem / situation / difficulties…
  4. Do you think the cartoon or photo is effective in getting across its message?

Kriterien zur Beurteilung der Sprache:

1. Werden Inhalte verständlich dargestellt, ist der Text problemlos lesbar?

2. Behindert die Anzahl der Fehler das Textverständnis?

3. Wird gegen wichtige Regeln häufig verstoßen (Zeiten, Aktiv-Passiv, Sgl-Pl, he/she/it=-s, non-defining and defining relative clause)?

4. Im Satzbau nur einfachste Strukturen (and…and…and)? = Arbeitsblatt “Varying sentence structure” from Feb 2011″

5. Ist bei komplexeren Sätzen der Inhalt noch klar?

6. Verbindungen zwischen Sätzen zur Strukturierung? (But, Also, Nevertheless..)

7. Gliederung des Textes durch Absätze? Zusammenhang der Absätze?

8. Wortschatz treffsicher?

9. Wortschatz variabel? (oder immer nur “he said …then he said…)

10. Germanismen

11. Textsortenspezifische Formulierungen verwendet? (zB bei comment: In my opinion)

12. Gegebener Text sinnvoll einbezogen oder starke sprachliche Anlehnung an gegebenen Text = kaum eigenes Vokabular?
